Rushing Information

JOIN THE FAMILY!
Thanks for your interest in Kappa Kappa Psi!  We are a national honorary fraternity for college band members who aim to serve the band department in numerous capacities and honor outstanding bandsmen.  Through rush functions and service projects open to everyone interested in rushing, we look forward to getting to know you a little more.  If you have any additional questions, please contact a brother and we'll be more than happy to answer them for you.

We're a Band Service Fraternity
...But that doesn't mean we don't have fun!  All of our brothers love to serve the bands in different ways.  In the past we've provided funds necessary to renovate different areas in Elliott and Slayter, built equipment for storage, painted rooms, even moved and reorganized the student offices in Elliott.

The Rush Process
In the fall, we hold several rush functions so that you are able to get to know both the brothers and the fraternity a little more and get a better feel for our brotherhood.  These rush functions are very informal, activities ranging anywhere from roller skating to kickball, pumpkin carving to bowling.  At the end of the fall semester, expect what's called informal rush, where the brothers can get to know you more and you can get to know the Gamma Pi chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi a little more.  Near the start of the spring semester, the brothers annually hold formal rush.  If you're interested in joining Kappa Kappa Psi, you must attend our formal interviews, and formal rush is where you will learn about what to expect for the interview process and sign up for a time to interview.  After interviews, the brothers will go through membership selection and will let you know soon after whether or not you are offered a bid of membership, which you can choose to accept or decline.

Grade Requirements
If you are a freshman, you must have at least a 2.5 semester GPA the fall before you interview.  If you're a sophomore or a junior, you must have at least a 2.0 semester GPA the fall before you rush and a 2.0 cumulative GPA.  If you are a transfer student or feel you may have a unique situation, please contact AJ Stone,  our current 2nd Vice President of Membership Education, at ajstone@purdue.edu

You should bring a copy of your grades with you to your interview (located on myPurdue) and must be enrolled in a university band or the Applied Music Program at Purdue University and should be in good academic standing with the university. Please check back for more information regarding how to check grades using MyPurdue.

Time Requirements
As a BIT (brother in training), you should expect to attend weekly chapter meetings as well as class meetings, the length and time of which are determined by the members of the BIT class.  In addition to these regular meetings, there will also be special events such as rituals and two major brotherhood building activities, which you will be expected to attend.  Most people put quite a bit of time into their initiation semester, but also get a lot out of the time invested.
